How much does the conference cost in 2019?
On-campus Single = $1065
On-Campus Double = $965
Off-Campus Registration & Fees = $530

When is the registration deadline?
We'll keep the doors open until all spots are filled.  (Registration opened February 1 and by the end of the month, we had filled a little over 2/3s of the spots.)

What are the details for arranging transportation to the conference if I'm flying in?
Choose an airport:  Chattanooga or Nashville.  Then click here for details on shuttles and getting to the conference venue.

I won't have a car on campus.  How will I get from venue to venue?
To some venues, walking is quite feasible.  For other needs we have conferee carpooling, and we also have conference golf carts and vans (with certified drivers).    See our TRANSPORTATION section for details.

What time zone is Sewanee, TN in?
Sewanee is in the Central Time Zone.

(Chattanooga is in the Eastern Time Zone, Nashville is Central.)

What are the weather and temperatures like in Sewanee?
Sewanee sits atop the South Cumberland Plateau at an altitude of about 2000 ft. Temperatures in July generally range from the mid to high 80’s and humidity can be high. Nights are usually cooler. Afternoon thunderstorms are common.

What do I need to pack?
See our recommended list of must-have items.

Conference attendees will be singing Friday Evensong and Sunday Eucharist at All Saints' Chapel on the campus of the University of the South (Sewanee).   Be sure to get a sub for your church July 8 - 14 so you can fully participate in all the services for the week.  You'll have worked hard on repertoire for Friday's Evensong and Sunday's Eucharist, and your fellow conferees depend upon and value your voice and presence!  So most importantly, BRING YOURSELF!

What if I need first aid at Sewanee?
We almost always have a stable of nurses and doctors as conference participants.  More on that on Registration Day.  (But you should ALWAYS call 911 for any medical emergency.  There's a beautiful hospital just down the road!)

Will there be music available to purchase while at the conference?
Yes!  The conference offers an excellent opportunity to browse and purchase church music.
  • Lois Fyfe Music, based in Nashville, TN will have on display a tremendous selection of choral, organ and instrumental music available for purchase.
  • St. James Music Press (Mark Schweitzer's on-line music subscription service, offering thousands of downloadable choral and instrumental works) will be represented.  You may access this site at any time by visiting www.sjmp.com.

Is there internet access available on campus?
You bet.  When you hit your internet access button, choose "Sewanee-Guest."  You'll just need to fill in your name and an email address.  The landing page takes you right to an interactive campus map!

Will I have cell phone service on campus?
Cell phone service works GREAT for AT&T subscribers.  2017 conferees with other cell phone service providers complained of mostly no service.  Sending text messsages were also challenging.  Many of our conferees communicated with Skype or Facebook or Google Hangouts or other web-based call services.  Facebook and email saved the day on many occasions!

If I lodge off-campus, may I buy a meal plan for McClurg Dining Hall for the week?
It's a  pay-as-you-go set-up for your Dining Hall meals.  Breakfast is  $7.00, Lunch is $9.50, and Dinner is $9.50.

Are there laundry facilities in the dorms?
Yes indeed.  (Different locations for each dorm.)

Is there an exercise facility on campus?
If you lodge on campus, you will have access to the amenities offered by the university.

What other leisure activities are available at the conference?

(See our Recreation Guide for more details and maps.)
  • Nearby golf course
  • Excellent hiking and sightseeing
  • Opportunities to visit local craftsmen
  • Local restaurants and coffee shops

What is the minimum age of attendees at the Sewanee Church Music Conference?
Anyone under the age of 18 who wants to attend must contact the registrar.

May guests attend rehearsals?
Rehearsals at All Saints Chapel on the campus of the University of the South (Sewanee) are open to guests as space is not an issue.  (Unfortunately, it's not possible to accommodate children in the choir loft at All Saints.)

What are the dates for upcoming conferences?

The 70th Sewanee Church Music Conference will be held July 12 – 18, 2021 and will feature Malcolm Archer, choral director.  Other details will be announced soon.
