Thomas Williams is Isabelle A. and Henry D. Martin Professor of Medieval Philosophy at Georgetown University and a priest of the Diocese of Southwest Florida. He has been attending the conference off and on (mostly on) since 2005.
Thomas received his BA from Vanderbilt University in 1988 and his PhD from the University of Notre Dame in 1994. He specializes in medieval philosophy and theology, especially Augustine, Anselm, Thomas Aquinas, and John Duns Scotus. Recent publications include a translation of Augustine’s Confessions and Anselm: A Very Short Introduction. Ordained in 2008, he has served parishes in Tampa, Clearwater, and St Petersburg; he was Canon Theologian at the Cathedral Church of St Peter in St Petersburg from 2015 to 2024.
Thomas’s husband, Marty Gould, is a professor in the English Department at the University of South Florida, specializing in Victorian literature. Their dog, Tess—named after Thomas Hardy’s second-most-depressing novel—is basically in charge of the household.
