Skilled Artisans

Back to Area Guide
Hallelujah Pottery (Monteagle)
1202 W. Main Street
Monteagle, TN 37356

Hallelujah Pootery currently represents eight master potters, whose work is functional, as well as artistically expressive. All pots are oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. Also represented are artists who do bronze sculpture, earrings, and mosaic wall hangings.  Demonstrations on the potters wheel are available anytime on weekends, and all are welcome to go on by and throw a pot!

Beersheba Porcelain (Beersheba Springs)
1 Dahlgren Avenue
Beersheba Springs, TN 37305

Terri and Phil Mayhew, the artisans of Beersheba Porcelain have been creating wonderful pieces for many years. Phil’s bowls, dishes, cups and candlestick holders and Terri’s unique porcelain jewelry have found their way into many a music conference attendee’s collection.  After 1PM, Phil is generally on the porch throwing pots while he chats with visitors.  Their log home, along with others in the Beersheba Historical District, is on the National Register and was slave-built in the early 1800’s.

Marugg Co. Scythe Factory (Tracy City)
Call 931-592-5042 to schedule a tour visit.

This is the oldest continuously operated scythe factory in America.  Begun in 1873 to supply the Swiss colony of nearby Gruetli, many of the early machines and tools are still in use here today.  The building, dated from 1900, is listed on the Register of Historic Places.

Sculpture in Wood (Monteagle)
7247 Us 41
Monteagle, TN 37356

Jess Betschart does exceptionally beautiful wood carving.  Much of his work is done on commission, but he has a number of items available for immediate purchase as well.  He enjoys company and talking with him makes it clear his creative work is truly a case of liberating what he sees already in the wood.  He is open Monday thru Saturday from 9 to 4.

The Amish Hippie (Monteagle)
808 W Main St
Monteagle, TN 37356

Unique gifts here.  Find them on Facebook!

Handcraft Outlets (Monteagle)

Look on both sides of the highway as you travel along the main street and past the Interstate bridge.  A variety of small shops offer crafts and items of interest.  They change often enough to make individual listings a challenge – just explore and enjoy.
