So you're flying into chattanooga...

  • First of all, it's good to bear in mind that Chattanooga is on Eastern Time, and that Sewanee is on Central Time.
  • Groome Transportation is the most economical shuttle service between Chattanooga and the conference.   Groome shuttles to from their Chattanooga location to Monteagle (town adjacent to Sewanee) to the Best Western Smoke House Lodge - about 15 minutes or so from University of the South campus.
  • As of summer 2018, Groome does not run from the Chattanooga airport (CHA) any longer, which will involve an additional step for our conferees arriving at the CHA airport.   You will need to take ground transportation to get to Groome's Chattanooga location at 5712 Ringgold Rd, East Ridge, TN 37412 to board the shuttle to Monteagle from there.
  • Make sure you have a seat on the shuttle by calling Groome @ 423-954-1400 to make a reservation.  (For shuttle times and other details, see Groome's website.)
  • Once you arrive in Monteagle, transportation will be provided from the Smokehouse Lodge to the Sewanee Campus.

(If your cell service is not functioning properly, please call or text from an internet app, such as Facebook or WhatsApp, etc.)

Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport

so you're flying into nashville...

  • Good news - both Nashville and Sewanee are  in the Central Time Zone.
  • Groome Transportation is the recommended direct shuttle service from the Nashville (BNA) airport.
  • The shuttle brings you to Monteagle (adjacent to Sewanee) to the Best Western Smoke House Lodge - about 15 minutes or so from University of the South campus.

From venue to venue during SCMC conference week

Picture
You can walk, drive your own car, carpool with dorm-mates, rent a bicycle for the week (see below), or hitch a ride on our van.

Driving & Parking

If you are driving your own personal vehicle, be on the look-out for fellow conferees who might need rides.

If you have a handicap windshield card, consider carrying it with you at all times so that if you hitch a ride with someone, the driver can legally park in a handicap spot.

OVERFLOW AREAS:
  • Tennessee Williams parking lot behind Cravens Hall.
  • Behind Benedict Dormitory off of University Ave on Hall St.
  • Secondary McCrady Parking lot near the Barnwell Apartment Complex located on
    Alabama Ave.

If you do not have a University parking sticker, you may park in any Visitor parking
    spot designated by white lines.

OFF LIMITS PARKING AREAS:

  • Parking along University Avenue unless Event Parking signs are displayed.
  • Blue parking spaces are University employee parking only.
  • Head Resident or Service spaces.
  • Non-parallel- parked cars must be head-in so that members of the Sewanee Police can read the license plate.

SAP WARNING:  take care when parking under the large trees in front of Quintard Hall.  For folks who parked under the gorgeous shady trees for long periods of time last summer, let us just say that some of us are still in sap removal mode!  (Perhaps Sewanee tree sap is the stuff they make hot glue out of?)

Conference shuttle service will begin ferrying passengers 15 minutes prior to breakfast each day and will make the rounds from Quintard Hall to the venues:  McClurg Dining Hall, Chapel of the Apostles (COTA), the School of Theology (the Pit and various seminary classrooms are here), All Saints' Chapel, The Sewanee Inn (for the Banquet), and other TBA venues where classes may be held.
